About

My name is Gavin, and I’m a family man. I’m happily married to Sarah, an amazing woman who runs her own dance school called The Mayo School of Ballet and Performing Arts. Our home is in the beautiful town of Westport, where we reside with our two wonderful children, Meghan, who is 9 years old, and Oliver, who is 6.

The motivation behind establishing the Voice Box was to reignite my passion for sound engineering. Having spent close to a decade as a studio recording engineer for a London-based music producer, I had the honour of collaborating with some of the industry’s most talented artists and musicians.

My interest in podcasts has grown over time, and one day Meghan expressed her desire to listen to one. I found it challenging to discover podcasts created by Irish children. Most podcasts tailored for kids were either from the United States or the United Kingdom.
I proposed to Meghan the idea of creating her own podcast. She teamed up with her school friend Penny, and together, we organised, recorded, and edited a podcast, marking the Voice Box’s inaugural episode. The girls found the process both enjoyable and educational. It was this experience that led me to consider introducing podcast programs, such as The Voice Box Podcasts in Class, to both primary and secondary schools across Ireland.

The silent discos offer both kids and adults a unique party experience to consider for various occasions. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, a special event like a holy communion or confirmation, a school or college graduation, a milestone birthday, or even a retirement party, these entertainment options add a special touch to any gathering.

FAQ's

Contact us if you have another question regarding our services.

How do Silent Discos work?

Our Silent Discos don’t require a DJ! Just plug your sound source, (laptop or iPad), into the transmitter using the headphone jack, and play your favourite tunes from any music service, such as Spotify or Apple Music. I can provide age-appropriate Spotify playlists to get you started, but it’s even more fun to create your own; after all, it’s your party!

What equipment is included in the silent disco kits?

With a silent disco kit there are 40 sets of headphones, 2 transmitters, and the charging cables. However, everything is fully charged before the kits are delivered to the party. The headphones last approximately 5-6 hours on a full charge and the transmitters over 2 hours, however, the transmitters can be plugged into a power source if the party is indoors.

Is the silent disco equipment easy to set up?

Yes, it’s very straightforward. I’ll deliver and collect the equipment before and after the party, and in most cases, I’ll have everything set up for you in advance. All you need to do is plug your laptop or iPad into the transmitter and play your music from your preferred sound source or streaming service.

Are Silent Discos just for birthday parties?

Absolutely not! So far, we’ve hosted silent disco parties in a variety of settings, including primary schools, where each class, starting with Junior Infants, gets approximately 20–25 minutes to let loose. We have also catered for social clubs, autism-friendly groups, and Down syndrome support groups.

Are Fuel & Travel costs included?

We are based in Westport, Co. Mayo. Fuel and travel costs are included within a 25 km radius. For distances beyond this, additional charges will be calculated at the time of booking.

Do the Podcasts in schools suit every class?

In primary schools our podcast workshops are best suited for 4th class onwards and for all year groups in secondary schools. That said, most of our bookings to date have been with 6th class students in primary schools and Transition Year students in secondary schools.

How much do the Podcasts in Class cost?

Every school is unique, operating with different class sizes, schedules, and budgets. We offer a variety of podcast programs that can be customized to meet the specific needs of your school.

Do I need to hire a venue?
No. If you are having a party at home the Voice Box can work there too. All we need is a 10ft x 6ft space for the song party studio, and a large enough space to create a temporary dance floor for the silent disco. The silent disco kit also works outside so if the weather is good the garden is a great place to locate the silent disco.
How and when will I get the song party recording?

The entire song party is recorded and the audio link is uploaded immediately after the recording session has ended and emailed to you.
